CALL FOR PAPERS

Journal of Biomaterials (JBI)

We invite high quality submissions that advance biomaterials science from synthesis and characterization to clinical translation and real world impact.

Publish with a focused, open access journal built for visibility, methodological rigor, and discovery by researchers, clinicians, and industry leaders.

Journal Focus And Scope

The Journal of Biomaterials (JBI) is a peer reviewed open access journal dedicated to the design, fabrication, characterization, and application of biomaterials. We publish research that connects material innovation with biological performance, manufacturing feasibility, and patient outcomes. Our audience includes materials scientists, biomedical engineers, translational researchers, and clinical teams looking for evidence based advances.

We prioritize studies with clear hypotheses, reproducible methods, and rigorous analysis. Interdisciplinary work that bridges material science, biology, and medicine is strongly encouraged. Articles should explain why a material choice matters, how it improves function or safety, and what the data mean for future clinical or industrial use.

Priority Research Areas

We welcome submissions across the full biomaterials lifecycle, with particular interest in research that demonstrates measurable performance, scalability, and translational value.

Biocompatibility

Host response, cytotoxicity, and immune interaction

Regenerative Medicine

What We Look For In Submissions

High performing manuscripts describe material synthesis and processing parameters, include appropriate controls, and report mechanical, chemical, and biological characterization with sufficient detail for replication. We encourage benchmarking against established materials and transparent discussion of limitations.

Methodological Rigor

Clearly defined experimental design, validated assays, statistical analysis, and complete reporting of materials and methods.

Translational Relevance

Evidence that the material improves safety, efficacy, manufacturability, or clinical usability compared with current options.

Publishing Value With JBI

As an open access journal, JBI ensures that your work is immediately accessible to the global biomaterials community. APC funded publishing supports peer review coordination, production quality, and long term preservation. Learn more about Article Processing Charges and available waivers.

We prepare structured metadata, DOI registration, and XML outputs to support discovery across scholarly search platforms and library systems. This ensures your research is visible, citable, and easy to share across academic, clinical, and industry audiences.

Editorial Independence

Acceptance decisions are based solely on scientific merit and relevance to the journal scope. APC status does not influence review or editorial outcomes.

Submission And Review Path

All submissions undergo initial editorial screening for scope and ethical compliance, followed by expert peer review. Authors receive constructive feedback focused on scientific quality, material performance evidence, and clarity of reporting. We encourage data availability statements and deposition of relevant datasets to strengthen reproducibility.

To speed evaluation, ensure your manuscript includes complete experimental details, validated assays, and a clear explanation of how the biomaterial advances the field. Please confirm that ethical approvals are documented for human or animal studies and that conflicts of interest are disclosed in the cover letter.

Submissions should use standard reporting guidelines where applicable and include a brief statement on data access, code availability, and material sourcing.
