What to Include

Proposals should outline the topic scope, rationale, intended audience, and expected volume of submissions. Highlight how the collection will influence clinical practice or policy decisions in chronic disease care.

Guest Editor Qualifications

Identify guest editors with relevant publication records, clinical expertise, and leadership in the topic area. Multidisciplinary editorial teams are encouraged.

How Proposals Are Evaluated

We assess proposals for clinical urgency, originality, and the ability to deliver a coherent collection.

  • Clear clinical or public health relevance to chronic disease.
  • Evidence of a defined audience and research community.
  • Feasible submission volume within the proposed timeline.
  • Balanced coverage of methods, populations, and outcomes.
  • Guest editors with strong publication and review experience.
  • Potential to inform guidelines, policy, or care delivery.
  • Commitment to ethical and transparent research practices.

Benefits of Leading a Special Issue

Guest editors help define future research priorities while expanding professional visibility.

Academic Leadership

Guest editors shape a focused evidence agenda, attract top submissions, and build visibility across clinical and research networks addressing chronic disease outcomes.

Community Impact

Special issues highlight emerging solutions, amplify collaboration, and help accelerate adoption of evidence based care models in chronic disease management.

Balanced Article Portfolio

We encourage a mix of original research, reviews, and clinical practice papers to ensure the issue delivers actionable guidance for clinicians and policymakers.

How the Review Process Works

Special issue manuscripts follow the same peer review standards as regular submissions.

We recommend a three to six month submission window with clear milestones for reviewer invitations, decisions, and revisions. JCD staff support guest editors with communication templates and status tracking. Issues may also include invited editorials or commentaries that frame the evidence for clinicians.

Proposal Review

JCD editors review scope fit, clinical relevance, and feasibility of the proposed issue.

Call for Papers

Once approved, a call for papers is published and distributed to targeted research communities.

Peer Review and Decisions

Submissions undergo double blind peer review with a target of 21 days to first decision.
