Manuscript Preparation

Prepare your manuscript in clear academic English, using consistent terminology and standard scientific units. Include all essential sections to allow reviewers to evaluate rigor, reproducibility, and clinical relevance. Define novel abbreviations and experimental models so readers can interpret results accurately.

Title Page

Include a concise title, full author names, affiliations, corresponding author contact details, and a short running title.

Abstract and Keywords

Provide a structured abstract with objectives, methods, results, and conclusions. Include 4 to 6 keywords.

Main Text

Organize the manuscript into Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion with clear subsection headings.

Formatting and Style

Clear formatting helps reviewers focus on your science. Use consistent section headings, define abbreviations on first use, and apply internationally accepted units. Avoid excessive jargon and maintain a concise, professional tone throughout.

  • Number pages and include line numbering when possible.
  • Use standard units and report conversions when necessary.
  • Define all abbreviations and gene or protein names consistently.
  • Provide a short running title and highlight key findings in the abstract.

References and Citations

Cite relevant literature to provide scientific context and support your conclusions. Ensure references are accurate, complete, and formatted consistently to avoid delays during production.

  • Use a numbered citation format in the order of appearance.
  • Include DOI numbers for journal articles whenever available.
  • Verify that all citations match the reference list and vice versa.
  • Limit citations to high quality, peer reviewed sources.

Methods and Reporting Standards

Methods should be detailed enough to enable reproducibility. Report experimental design, sample selection, and statistical analysis clearly, and include controls and validation steps where applicable.

  • Describe materials, reagents, and equipment with source details.
  • Provide ethical approvals, consent statements, and clinical trial registrations where relevant.
  • Report statistical methods, confidence intervals, and significance thresholds.
  • Follow appropriate reporting guidelines such as CONSORT, PRISMA, STROBE, or ARRIVE when applicable.

Statistical Reporting and Reproducibility

Robust statistical reporting strengthens credibility and facilitates translational adoption. Provide sufficient detail for reviewers to evaluate analysis decisions, and for readers to interpret effect sizes in clinical or biological context.

  • Define primary and secondary endpoints for clinical or animal studies.
  • Report sample size rationale and any power calculations used.
  • Specify software, version, and statistical tests applied.
  • Disclose any data exclusions and explain outlier handling.

Figures, Tables, and Supplementary Data

Figures and tables should be high resolution, clearly labeled, and referenced in the text. Complex datasets, protocols, or extended methods can be submitted as supplementary files to improve transparency.

  • Ensure figure legends are self explanatory and define all abbreviations.
  • Use tables to summarize data without duplicating text content.
  • Submit supplementary datasets or protocols in common, accessible formats.

Cover Letter and Suggested Reviewers

A concise cover letter helps editors understand the significance of your findings. Include the manuscript title, novelty statement, and a brief summary of clinical or translational relevance.

  • Explain why the work fits JBMB scope and readership.
  • Disclose related manuscripts or prior dissemination of data.
  • Suggest qualified reviewers if requested by the system.
  • Identify any reviewers with potential conflicts of interest.

Authorship and Contributions

Authorship should reflect substantial intellectual contribution to the study design, data analysis, or manuscript preparation. All authors must approve the final version and agree to publication.

  • List contributions for each author when requested by the editorial team.
  • Identify a single corresponding author responsible for communication.
  • Ensure that contributors who do not meet authorship criteria are acknowledged.

Funding, Acknowledgements, and Permissions

Transparent funding statements help readers evaluate potential influence and ensure compliance with grant requirements. Acknowledge contributors who provided technical assistance or materials, and secure permissions for any reused content.

  • List grant numbers and funding agencies in a dedicated funding statement.
  • Identify laboratory support, core facilities, or statistical assistance.
  • Obtain written permission for reused figures or substantial text excerpts.

Ethics, Consent, and Conflicts of Interest

JBMB follows international ethical standards for human and animal research. Disclose all conflicts of interest and funding sources to protect editorial transparency.

  • Human studies must include ethics committee approval and informed consent.
  • Animal studies must follow institutional and national welfare guidelines.
  • Declare conflicts of interest and funding support in the manuscript.

Clinical Trials and Patient Data

For clinical investigations, provide trial registration numbers and follow established reporting frameworks. Patient privacy is essential in bone marrow research, particularly when dealing with transplant outcomes and genetic data.

  • Include trial registry identifiers and protocol summaries where applicable.
  • Remove personally identifiable information from images or datasets.
  • Confirm consent for any patient photographs or imaging data.
  • Document ethical approval for biobanking or genetic studies.

Data Availability and Transparency

We encourage data sharing to support reproducibility and secondary analysis. Provide a data availability statement that explains where data can be accessed, or why restrictions apply.

  • Deposit datasets in recognized repositories when feasible.
  • Include accession numbers for sequence data or imaging archives.
  • Document any restrictions related to privacy or regulatory compliance.

Preprint and Prior Dissemination

JBMB considers manuscripts that have appeared on reputable preprint servers, provided authors disclose prior posting at submission. The final peer reviewed article must clearly differentiate validated findings from preliminary versions.

  • Disclose preprint server links in the cover letter.
  • Update the preprint record after acceptance when possible.

APC and Waiver Information

JBMB charges a transparent Article Processing Charge after acceptance to sustain open access publishing. Review APC details and waiver options on the APC page. Payment does not influence editorial decisions.

Language and Editing Support

Clear communication improves review outcomes and reader confidence. Authors who need language support may request guidance through the Language Editing Service page. Use of editing services does not affect editorial decisions. We recommend requesting support early so editing does not delay submission timelines.

Copyright and Licensing

Accepted articles are published under open access licensing to encourage reuse and citation. Review the copyright and license policy for details on author rights and permitted reuse.

Peer Review and Revision

Submissions are screened for scope and compliance before peer review. Reviewers evaluate scientific rigor, originality, and clinical relevance. Authors should respond to reviewer comments point by point and highlight manuscript changes clearly.

  • Provide a detailed response letter addressing each reviewer comment.
  • Mark revisions in the manuscript or provide a tracked version.
  • Maintain data integrity and avoid selective reporting.

Proofing and Publication

After acceptance and payment confirmation, the manuscript enters production for copyediting, layout, and proof review. Authors are responsible for final proof corrections and timely approval to avoid publication delays.

  • Review proofs carefully for accuracy in names, figures, and references.
  • Respond to production queries promptly to keep timelines on track.
  • Final articles are published open access with DOI assignment.

Post Publication Updates
