Prevalence Features and Early Predictors of Symptomatic Lacunar Infarction in Villages and Towns in Northern China

Abstract:

A higher incidence of symptomatic lacunar infarction (LI) was confirmed in metropolitan areas. The aim of this study was to determinethe prevalence characteristics and early predictors of LI in a population of elderly outpatients in northern China.

MicroRNAs: As A Novel Potential Tool for Diagnosis, Prognosis, and Therapeutic Agents in Hypertension.

Abstract:

The aim of this review is to compile our understanding of microRNA (miRNA) and its significance in Hypertension (HTN) pathophysiology. The wide spectrum of health disparity is one of the reasons for the dominance of HTN in humans for decades. We are striving hard to understand these variations, and we know to some extent that genetic susceptibilities do exist in HTN. Understanding miRNA will add to the current understanding of the disease process. In later parts, we discussed possible clinical implications of miRNAs in HTN as a biomarker of disease expression and its potential in prognostic and therapeutic applications in HTN.

Management of Locally Advanced and Metastatic Pediatric Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma. Experience of Children Cancer Hospital – Egypt

Abstract:

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a rare disease in the pediatric age group; it represents 1% of all pediatrics malignancies, however, it is the predominant malignancy arising in the nasopharynx in this age group. Although NPC is a chemo-radiosensitive disease yet, the optimal dose of radiotherapy and optimal timing of chemotherapy is still not standardized.

Erlotinib Associated Trichomegaly in a Patient with Chronic Latanoprost Use

Abstract:

Trichomegaly is a known adverse effect with the epidermal growth factor receptor inhibitor (EGFRI) and prostaglandin analogue drug classes. We present a chronic Latanoprost user who developed symptomatic trichomegaly subsequent to initiating an EGFRI medication and believe this case offers evidence that the two classes of medications may cause a similar eyelash manifestation through different mechanisms.

Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion in a patient with a Nodular Lymphocyte-Predominant Hodgkin Lymphoma. A case report and review of literature

Abstract:

Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH) is a known side effect of several oncology drugs, but it is rarely seen secondary to vinblastine with only a few cases reported worldwide. Herein we present a patient with nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin disease that developed a severe acute hyponatremia seven days after her first cycle of chemotherapy with R-ABVD. After fluid restriction, symptoms and concentration of blood sodium were restored. After a comprehensive review of the literature vinblastine was thought to be the cause and avoided in the second infusion of chemotherapy without recurrence of the SIADH.

Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion in Factor V Leiden Mutation

Abstract:

A previously healthy 25 year old Chinese male presented with left eye blurring of vision and was diagnosed to have left eye branch retinal vein occlusion. Initial blood investigations and thrombophilia screen were negative. The patient subsequently improved with observation and conservative management, with no further events over a 2 year follow up period.

The blood investigations were repeated 2 years later as part of a health check-up and he was then tested to be heterozygous for the factor V leiden mutation. This was confirmed by sequencing of his genome that identified the mutation. The laboratory was contacted to provide details regarding the testing methods and was noted to have performed the two tests via different methods.

Early Glycine Supplementation Re-Establishes Adrenal Catecholamine Secretion in Hypothalamic Obesity Model in Rats but does not Affect Visceral Adiposity.

Abstract:

Obesity is a worldwide epidemic that features a multifactorial syndrome characterized by a chronic positive energetic unbalance. Neonatal administration of monosodium L-glutamate (MSG) causes lesion on the arcuate nucleus of hypothalamus that led to development of obesity in the adult life in rodents characterized by a notorious accumulation of catecholamine in the adrenal medulla. The amino acid glycine induces catecholamine secretion of adrenal medulla. Thus, the objective of our work was to evaluate the possible effects of glycine administration in the MSG-obesity model in rats and investigate its impact on adrenal catecholamine medulla homeostasis.
